Franklin, Smoky Open up Conference Play; Cherokee, Swain Host Conference Rivals

Week 8 of high school football kicks off Friday evening all around Western North Carolina.

The 6-0 Franklin Panthers finished off their non-conference slate with a 54-0 victory over the Carolina Wildcats last week at the Panther Pit. Kickoff between the Panthers and Bearcats will take place at 7:30, and you can hear it all on 104.9 and 1050 WFSC.

The Smoky Mountain Mustangs are 3-3 on the year, after demolishing the Madison Patriots for homecoming last week, 59-12. The win stopped a two game losing streak for Smoky, and now they will head to Canton to take on the Pisgah Black Bears, who are 4-2 on the year. This will also be the first conference game for the Mustangs, who will look to notch their first win in conference.

The Cherokee Braves are also 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Smoky Mountain Conference, coming off of a huge victory over the Swain County Maroon Devils in Bryson City last week, 45-7. Cherokee will continue their conference schedule with a game against the 2-5 Rosman Tigers at Ray Kinsland Stadium on the Reservation this evening.
