Cold for a Cause Raises Thousands of Pounds of Food, Clothing for Needy in Macon County
Some totals for the donations for the 9th annual Cold for a Cause are starting to come in.
This year, 4,200 coats, blankets, and clothing items were donated to Macon County CareNet for the needy in the county.
As far as food donations, 3,400 lbs of non-perishable food items were donated as a result of the event.
Items donated this year included canned goods, non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, paper goods (paper towels, hand wipes and diapers), toothpaste and toothbrushes, coats, blankets and warm weather clothing.
Patrick Jenkins was put up in a crane to help drive donations, and Jenkins says it is a great way to help give back to the area, “I just wanted to try and do something to help people in the community. I have been here in Macon County basically all my life and have been very blessed. I grew up here and wanted to come up with an idea to give back to the community, but I knew it had to be something out of the box for everyone to jump on board and get the support needed for the event.”
