MLK Celebration Sunday in Franklin

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration will be held this Sunday, January 14th at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church. The event is produced and sponsored by the Macon County Human Relations Council under the direction of Patricia Washington, Director of Macon County Humans Relations Council.

The celebration is held each year the Sunday prior to the federal holiday held the third Monday in January in observance of Dr. King’s birthday. Everyone is invited to the celebration to commemorate Dr. King’s life with a program of music and speeches sponsored by the Macon County Humans Relations Council.

The keynote speaker for the celebration will Reverend Charles Lee of Asheville and pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Sylva. The celebration will also feature music, inspirational speakers and the traditional reading Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.  Light refreshments will be served following the celebration.

The public is encouraged to attend this annual celebration to recognize the life of Dr. King.
