3rd Annual Westside Merchant Block Party Draws Crowd in Franklin

Last Saturday, a large crowd gathered in the Appalachian Ace Hardware parking lot for the 3rd annual Westside Merchants Block Party. According to event organizers, the event continues to grow each year with more westside businesses participating in the event which attracts a larger crowd each year.

The annual event is sponsored by Appalachian Ace Hardware, Curtis TV, Fox Mercantile, Lazy Hiker Brewing Company and Macon Rental with several other westside businesses participating in the event. The Franklin Fire Department located on the westside of town also supported the event flying the American flag from the fire truck ladder above the party.

The block party was a family friendly type of event offering something for everyone of all ages. This year’s event featured a bounce house, games, T-shirt tie-dyeing booth, planting project and other activities for children. Adults had the chance to enjoy games such as corn hole and frisbee golf, product demos, free giveaways and food. Lazy Hiker brewed a special beer for the event, the “Westside Wit,” a traditional style Belgian Wit with flavors of orange peel, coriander and a touch of spice.

“All vendors and anyone with a business on the westside of Franklin come together for the block party to give something back to the community for appreciation for coming into our stores, shopping with us and shopping locally,” said Josh Patrick, owner of Appalachian Ace Hardware and organizer of the block party. “We hold this event to tell our customers thank you for shopping with us; we are all business owners and are working hard to expand our businesses; we don’t get to do that without people coming in and shopping with us. We just want to say thank you and give back to our customers.”

“I think this end of town is undergoing a revitalization,” added Patrick. “We have a lot of the older buildings on this side of town, we’ve got in them, put something in them and it’s growing. Folks now come to the westside of town for things. We are getting well rounded types of businesses, so we really have one of everything here, so people can shop this side, get everything they need, and it works well for them.”
