Summer Film Fest Gets Underway Thursday in Franklin

Tonight, Thursday, July 12th, the first film of the Suminski Family Books Summer Film Fest for Families will be offered at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. The summer film fest is sponsored by Bob McCollum, “The Music Doctor” Piano Tuning and the Kurczewskis & Shady Lane Mountain Retreat.

The movie Paddington 2 will be shown at 7:00 p.m. with pre-show activities and concessions from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

All proceeds from the summer film fest will benefit the Folk Heritage Association of Macon County for the Grandpa’s Workshop Project and Women’s History Trail, Read2Me and Friends of the Greenway for the Big Bear Water Feature Project. Tonight’s feature will benefit Grandpa’s Workshop Project, a woodworking event held for children during the FHAMC Folk Festival and Cowee Christmas.

Tickets are $5.00 each and will be available at the door. Advanced tickets are also available at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. Season passes are also available at $15.00 each as well as family of four season passes available for $50.00. Sponsorships are also available. Patrons who bring a gently used children’s book for Read2Me will receive a free small popcorn.

The remaining films in the film fest will include Hidden Figures on Thursday, July 19th; Peter Rabbit Thursday, August 9th and Wonder on Thursday, August 16th.  For more information, contact Clair Suminski at [email protected] com.
